Brushed by Bertha

Tootlepedal's Blog

Today’s guest picture is a sculpture in Melbourne which my brother passed on his way to New Zealand last month.

We spent the day wrapped in the coat tails of downgraded tropical storm Bertha.  It was raining when we got up and whenever I looked out of the window, which was infrequently, it still seemed to be raining.   It is raining as I write this in the evening.

I improved the morning by putting a a cassoulet into the slow cooker and retiring for a bath.  When I got out, not only had Mrs Tootlepedal returned from singing in the church choir but a magical plate of drop scones, a tin of sardines and a packet of tea from Sri Lanka had appeared on the kitchen table.

Carlos Gonzalez lands on disabled list with knee issue

HardballTalk beat writer Thomas Harding reports that the Rockies have put outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis. It’s yet another dagger in what has been a highly frustrating season for the dynamic 28-year-old.

CarGo needed surgery in early June to remove a benign tumor from his left index finger and has been bothered off and on by knee issues since April.

This has all led to him posting a disappointing .238 batting average and .723 OPS (89 OPS+) over 70 games. He had a .300 batting average and .887 OPS (125 OPS+) in 691 career games prior to the start of the 2014 campaign.

Recently, a main character of the show, Honoka, had her birthday, and a dedicated Japanese Twitter user’s mother carved this surprisingly detailed piece of watermelon art in celebration.

Video: Jay Bruce robs Giancarlo Stanton of a home run

That would have been the second home run of the day (and 30th of the season) for Stanton, who cranked a solo shot off Reds starter Johnny Cueto in the top of the first inning. Cincinnati won the game 7-2.
